I go there every time I am in Tampa, which is quite often. Hopefully this has been helpful, as has been all of your reviews as well.Īs a resident of Naples Florida, Ybor is the best place to have fun in the state. This is another great place for nightlife, more upscale though. Or heading out to Channelside drive in downtown. I would suggest going down during the day for lunch, more of a PG type atmosphere. Probably not going to meet your expectations. If you are a person who likes to party, doesn't mind seeing tattoos, piercings, and some other offensive adult type themes then a night in Ybor is for you. Definately, great times to be had if you like to let loose and are not uptight. Most people get there after 10pm, so that is the time it is most crowded. Time to go is on Friday and Saturday, or sometimes on thursday. And if you like Clubs check out Pirana, Empire, and the Ampitheater. There are some good bars there like Green Iguanas and Cowboy Ugly. It is not in the best neighborhood, but there is a parking garage and security. Mostly everyone down there is drinking and partying. It is pretty much one long street with a lot of old warehouse type buildings that have been turned into bars and clubs. I am 29 and like to occasionally go out to party, hard to find the time :). I have lived in Tampa for about 20 years and have spent many crazy nights in Ybor. Sometimes it is hard to tell which kind of people write which reviews so here goes. Therefore, I thought I would give my two cents on some places I have been. I came across this site while planning some vacations for me and my wife and found other peoples reviews interesting and helpful. There's nothing to sink your teeth into here - except maybe the cuisine. I don't consider myself "rich" or "snobby" but I am not intrigued by urban blight, failed urban renewal projects nor places whose prime claim to fame are drunken Mardi Gras festivities. And that includes waiting for the trolley to leave. I am glad I saw it for whatever history is there but I was there and gone in less than an hour. It is definitely not a place for kids, not a place for shoppers, not a place for history buffs (unless they want to give the city some advice on saving it) and is not scenic, romantic, nor even decadent in a sinister, romantic sort of way. Every other business was a tobacco shop (which I didn't mind, considering the history involved there) or a tattoo/piercing parlor - I have never seen so many in such a small area - at least 20 - and am amazed that they can all stay in business. Yes, it has a mixture of New Orleans-style wrought-iron balciony architecture sprinkled with dilapidated art deco, but the businesses in the places were creepy.not a word I've ever used in describing a place before, but the only one that comes to mind. Where is the history? The cigar factories, the brewery, the Italian, Cuban and Spanish heritage? There is no shopping tp speak of (a couple of boring chain stores, one souvenir place, and used-clothing places) and I suppose if I wanted to eat I could have found something tasty, but I was there to peruse and learn. Not Disneyfy it, not gentrify it, just make it easy to see the past. Otherwise, the city needs to get involved, as one reviewer said, and fix the place up. Went to the Columbia Restaurant, historucally significant. I would have liked to see the museum - no time. I rarely can't find anything I like about a place, especially one with historic significance, but Ybor City has very little to recommend it.
